Sport

Sport is a common language that builds character and brings people together. More than competition, it is a practice of connection, discipline, and shared joy. Sport is also part of the Foundation’s own history, reflecting its commitment to supporting processes of personal and collective growth. As a tool for development, sport can strengthen physical and emotional well-being, build relationships, and foster community cohesion. It teaches by example — perseverance, collaboration, and respect — values that carry from the field into everyday life.

Why it matters
58.9
%
of people aged 18 and over in urban areas of Mexico did not engage in physical or sports activity during their leisure time in 2024. This shows how far sport remains from being an accessible, sustained part of everyday life for most people. Investing in sport matters because expanding access can improve health while also creating spaces for connection, belonging, and personal development.
26.7
%
of physically active people reported that there are no sports facilities in their neighborhood; among those who do have access to them, 12.8% consider them to be in poor condition. This suggests that a significant part of the challenge lies not in motivation, but in the availability and quality of infrastructure. Investing in sport matters because sustained participation requires nearby, safe, well-maintained spaces.
9.2 percentage points
that's the gap between men and women in physical and sports activity in Mexico: 46.0% of men engaged in some form of activity, compared with 36.8% of women. In addition, 8.8 million people with disabilities live in the country, making it even more urgent to expand inclusive and adapted opportunities. Investing in sport matters because opportunities to participate and stay active are not yet equally available to everyone.
